UAE & Pakistan. Mithai, kunafa, dates, maamoul and rusks by the kilo; quarter-kilo boxes on Eid.
Weighing scales
A bakery POS with a weighing scale that prices by weight in one scan.
Weigh the barfi, the kunafa, the cookies by the pound. The scale prints a barcode; the register reads the product and the weight and charges your rate. Nobody types a price per kilo on the busiest night of Ramadan.
- Prefix: scale label
- SKU: Pista barfi
- Whole kg
- Decimals
Format in this demo: 2 + 4 + 2 + 2 digits. Line total: —
The short answer
How does a POS read a scale barcode?
A label scale prints a barcode whose digits are split into fields. You tell the POS where each field starts and ends, once. From then on every sticker is a product plus a weight, and the price is weight × your rate.
USA. Cookies, pan dulce trays, fudge and bulk bread by the pound; deli-style counters at bigger panaderías.
Setup
Connect a label scale in about twenty minutes
Do it on a quiet afternoon with one weighed product, then add the rest.
5 minSet the barcode format
In POS settings, enter the prefix your scale uses, the SKU length and how many digits carry the weight before and after the decimal point.
10 minMatch the SKUs
Give each weighed product (barfi, kunafa, cookies by the pound) the same short code on the scale and in the catalogue.
secondsWeigh and print
Staff weigh at the scale; it prints a sticker with the barcode on the box or bag.
one scanScan at the till
The register reads the product and the weight from the barcode and prices it at your rate per kg or lb.

Why do sweet shops weigh away from the till?
Because the queue moves at the speed of the till. On Chaand Raat in Lahore or the last nights of Ramadan in Deira, one person weighs and boxes, another scans and takes payment. The barcode carries the weight between them, so the cashier never re-weighs or re-types.
It also makes mistakes visible: each sale line shows the weight it was charged for, and reports show kilos sold per product.

These are sample reviews, written to show how bakeries use each feature. Real, named reviews replace them as customers share them.

“Staff weigh the barfi, the scale prints the sticker, the counter scans it. Nobody types a price per kilo any more, so nobody types it wrong on Eid.”
Weighing scale questions
Can a bakery POS work with a weighing scale?
Yes. GetBakeryPOS reads the barcodes printed by label scales. The barcode carries a prefix, the product code and the weight; the register decodes it and prices the item by weight at your rate.
What is a weight-embedded barcode?
A barcode printed by a scale in which some digits are the product code and some are the weight. In the example 2510420075: 25 marks a scale label, 1042 is the product, 0075 means 0.75 kg (two whole digits, two decimals).
Do I sell by kilo or by pound?
Whichever your market uses. In the UAE and Pakistan sweets and dates are priced per kilo; in the US by the pound. Set the product’s unit and price to match how your scale is set.
Which scales work?
Any label-printing scale that can print a barcode with a fixed prefix, a product code and the weight in a configurable number of digits. Bring your scale’s model to the demo and we will check its barcode settings with you. We do not sell scales.
Can I weigh at the register instead of printing labels?
The supported workflow is the label scale: weigh, print, scan. It keeps the queue moving at Eid and Ramadan peaks because weighing happens away from the till.
Does the scale need to be legal for trade?
Yes, when you sell by weight. In the US that usually means an NTEP-approved scale inspected by your state or county; in the UAE and Pakistan, follow your local weights-and-measures rules. That approval belongs to the scale, not to the POS.
How long does scale setup take?
About 15 minutes once you know your scale’s barcode format: enter the format in settings and match product codes. We help during the trial.
Can scale items carry lot and expiry dates?
Yes. Products sold by weight can be tracked by lot and expiry like anything else. See expiry & lot tracking.
Which plan includes weighing scales?
All plans, starting with Counter.
